This year, with your help, we will plant tens of thousands of trees!

Our national community was established in the summer of 2019, with local groups found in several counties of Hungary, in both larger cities and smaller villages. Our common goal is to plant as many plants as possible in the country, thereby contributing to the improvement of the Earth’s climate. Preparing, organizing, and fully executing the plantings are also very important steps in this process. In 2021, we reached our first major milestone, as the number of our plantings already exceeded one hundred thousand. And we did not slow down in 2022. In fact, by the end of last year, we planted nearly two hundred thousand trees and more than forty thousand shrubs thanks to the community and our partners.

In 2022, many people, companies, and municipalities were motivated by various reasons to make Hungary and the world a better place

What unites us all is our belief in the power of collaboration and our mission: each of us must leave behind at least one tree, as this way we do not remain passive observers of climate change.

In 2022, we planted a total of approximately fifty-seven thousand trees and shrubs,

For example, in collaboration with Electrolux, the Nyíregyháza Green Action Group planted thirty mature trees, and together with DM, our group in the 22nd district, where the municipality also supported the cause, established fifty square meters of so-called Miyawaki forest. In this area, as many native trees and shrubs as possible were planted so that the young plants striving for sunlight would engage in a lively competition for light, allowing them to begin developing at a much faster rate than average. Remaining in the district, forward-looking changes also took place on Eperlevél Street, as with the contribution of Smart Deployment Ltd., we created a multi-aged grove protective belt by planting a total of 165 trees and shrubs.

In some places, the 10 Million Trees Foundation planted nearly 20,000 saplings

The foundation also achieved successful work in central plantings. Last spring in Budapest, we planted a total of 228 mature trees. In cooperation with Főkert in Káposztásmegyer and Rákoshegy, we planted 18,000, in Bátmonostor in Bács-Kiskun County, 13,800, and at Boráros Square in the capital, sixty square meters of forestry saplings planted using the Miyawaki method.

Together with the 2nd district municipality, we planted 61 mature trees, and with the 9th district municipality – in partnership with Henkel – we planted fifty mature trees in Madaras Park. With the contribution of GreenGo, a reformer of public transportation, complemented by the Swimathon fundraising, we created eighty square meters of Miyawaki forest on Lenhossék Street in the 9th district, with a total of 320 trees and shrubs planted.

Digging water-retaining ditches, restoration program, afforestation of school gardens

The Nyimi Eco Community, with the contribution of One Tree Planted, we participated in an ecological restoration program, during which we dug water-retaining swales and built fences, planting 24 mature trees and 1,500 forestry seedlings.  In Dombfalva (Domonyvölgy), thanks to One Tree Planted, xForest and its readers, and in partnership with MrSale Suit Store, we established a multi-aged, high-biodiversity grove at the end of November as part of a landscape reconstruction program, surrounded by wildlife protection fencing, using several methods to help the plants (1,000 forestry, 20 mature native trees, and 12 mature native fruit trees) survive drought periods.

Last November, we started a joint program with K&H, which will run until the end of May, during which we will plant 555 trees and 1,100 shrubs in the gardens of one hundred schools across the country. The planting is currently at 30%. Our project in the XVII district, Szöcske Meadow, is also progressing well, where we are planting a grove forest. On the area maintained by Főkert, we are placing approximately 4,000 trees and shrubs. The planting is nearly complete.

We plant trees and thoughts

The results of the 10 Million Trees Foundation last year show that more and more people are joining our initiative, and whether in smaller or larger groups, it is truly worthwhile to unite and plant new plants, thereby contributing a little to the fight against the climate crisis.

The goal remains unchanged: “We want to ensure that every person in Hungary plants at least one tree in their lifetime. We want to win as many partners as possible for this, as we believe that beyond the plants, which help in biodiversity and climate crisis management, we can also plant thoughts that can take us much further,” says Iván András Bojár, founder of the 10 Million Trees Foundation, who also expressed his immense gratitude to everyone who participated in the work in 2022.
