We planted 888 trees over the weekend.

On November 22, we planted 888 trees in excellent weather at the Merzse Marsh Nature Conservation Area in collaboration with the staff of Főkert. It was an ideal planting time: neither too warm nor too cold, allowing us to progress quickly with the planting.

WHAT TREES DID WE PLANT?

We enriched the landscape with saplings of pedunculate oak, black poplar, white poplar, Tatar maple, field maple, wild apple, and wild pear, in accordance with the professional guidance of Főkert.

ABOUT THE MERZSE MARSH:

The area is located in the southeastern part of the 17th district of the capital, on the administrative border of Ecser-Budapest.

The protected habitat is surrounded by uninhabited areas – primarily arable lands and planted forests.

This area is one of the last representatives of the once extensive Rákosi marshland, which is partially degraded but still worthy of protection.

The area consists of three main units: the southernmost Nagy-Merzse, Kis-Merzse, and the partially forested Gyolcs-rét.

Its botanical values have largely been destroyed, but from the notes of renowned botanists, we know that even in the 1980s, there were wonderful meadow orchid-rich wetlands here.

At the same time, recent botanical surveys and targeted grassland management by the conservation group of the Horticultural Division of Budapest Public Utilities Nonprofit Ltd. show promising results.
