10 Million Trees – For National Representatives

It has been a while since we last shared news about ourselves, and we really miss communicating with you and sharing more information. From now on, we will strive to regularly share news with you again.

Many of you have expressed interest in our autumn programs, tree plantings, and seasonal seedling distributions – in this letter, we summarize our current situation and possibilities.

In addition to the summary, we will also take a brief look back in time, showcasing a few already realized events that can provide strength and – we hope – ideas for local and regional action.

If you are not yet subscribed to the 10 Million Trees weekly newsletter, please do so here:

In these letters, you can learn about the latest news and our community stories.

WHERE ARE WE HEADING?

In recent years, 10 Million Trees has grown tremendously.

We have transformed from a small civil initiative into a national movement – with thousands of active individuals, over five hundred thousand trees planted, and an ever-increasing responsibility. This growth naturally entails the need to build a system, a permanent team, and a stable background. A foundation that we can safely build on in the long term – for the benefit of all of us and the trees.

To this end, we have slightly restructured our operations.

Our goal is to have permanent staff, modern tools, clear communication, and continuous presence in the community space.

All of these serve to ensure that 10 Million Trees not only grows but also strengthens. In this autumn planting season of 2025, as much as we would like to, we cannot distribute seedlings for free.

Our common goal remains unchanged:

to plant as many trees as possible, engaging and involving as many people as we can in the uplifting process of planting.

DISCOUNTED SEEDLING PROCUREMENT

The 10 Million Trees community now has discounted procurement options at numerous nurseries across the country, if you have a planting project in mind for which you would like to purchase saplings, please let us know via email, and we will find out where you can make the purchase at the best possible price.

Of course, we are still here to help anyone who wants to procure saplings at the best possible price.

If you would like to buy seedlings, please write to Franci at 10milliofa kukac 10milliofa pont hu (subject: I would like to buy seedlings + region name).

SUCCESSES & RESULTS | PLANTINGS

In the next section, as mentioned above, we will take a brief look back and forward in time: browse through the already realized, inspiring events and those still ahead of us!

If you have a plan, idea, or opportunity to plant, but something small is still missing, please share the opportunity with us, and perhaps together we can find a way to make it happen.

In 2026, we will see the 2nd National Tree Planting Day, we are looking for new locations and new ideas.

VOLUNTEER WATERING – SUMMER 2025

A unique collaboration kicked off at the beginning of summer with the Volunteer Watering campaign.

Inspired by the mobilizing power of the National Tree Planting Day held on March 1, and following the outreach from the Budapest City Hall and the BKM FŐKERT Division, we decided to experimentally involve the public in watering the city’s young tree population.

The results of the Volunteer Watering exceeded all our expectations:

nearly 3000 people stepped out of their shaded homes in the sweltering heat to save the young trees. Numerous watering communities formed throughout the summer.
✅ We provided approximately 400,000 liters of water to thirsty trees,
✅ The beeco app reached 17,000 downloads, with 1,500 active “Volunteer Waterers,”
7,000 trees received water at least once.

SUCCESSFUL KATLAN-FOREST FUNDRAISING: 2800 TREES!

In mid-summer, on July 8, we announced our Beremend Katlan-forest project.

Our goal was to plant a forest of 2800 trees in Beremend, while involving the audience of the 18th Ördögkatlan Festival, which turned 18 this year.

Thanks to you and the sixty Katlan-forest ambassadors, we have already raised the necessary funds for the planting, so there are no financial obstacles to getting the saplings in the ground.

Part of the funding came from private contributions, while the other part was provided by Henkel Magyarország Kft.

During the fundraising, on July 31, 2025, we planted the 500,000th tree of the 10 Million Trees initiative in Beremend!

KECSKEMÉT: THE 2ND MIYAWAKI MINI-FOREST IS COMING!

One of the most active groups of the 10 Million Trees initiative is the Kecskemét Green Civil Society, who tirelessly work not only for the greening of the city but also for the surrounding region!

During their latest application, they sought partners for planting a Miyawaki mini-forest and greening in front of houses, who would also commit to the care and watering of the plants for no less than five years.

A total of seventeen applications were received, each articulating well-thought-out and justified needs.

Two new Miyawaki mini-forests and additional greening in Kecskemét

As a result of the newly launched collaborations, one of the Miyawaki mini-forests will be planted at the Bányai Júlia Gymnasium in Kecskemét in the fall of 2025, while the other will be planted in the spring at the Green Residential Park.

The public greening will take place in the spring, tentatively on March 1, 2026, during the 2nd National Tree Planting Day organized by 10 Million Trees.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A COORDINATOR, BUT IN THE MEANTIME…

For years, we have been looking for a team member you can turn to at any time with your questions, and who will continuously share the most important news and events of 10 Million Trees with you.

Several people have attempted this role, but we have found that the task is so complex and time-consuming that it is difficult to entrust it to a single person.

Currently, we do not have a designated colleague for this task, but we hope this does not deter you from reaching out to us with any questions, difficulties, or ideas.

Veru, Gabi, Franciska, as well as the experts and other members of the central team are striving to respond to all your inquiries and assist you as best as they can.

NOVEMBER PROGRAMS, TREE PLANTINGS

Short summaries, planting opportunities selected from various locations across the country.

NOVEMBER 8 – BUDAPEST

The next community tree planting will take place on November 8 in the IX district of Budapest. The preparation for the planting has already begun by the most enthusiastic urban tree planters:

On October 20, early in the evening, 51 bags of fresh, ripe compost were shovelled out from the composting site at Boráros Square.

Thanks to the compost friends at Boráros Square!

We will replace bagged potting soil with compost, thereby reducing the waste generated by our planting.

The procurement of trees, stakes, fertilizers, and permits has already started.

NOVEMBER 15 – MONORIERDŐ, MULCHING

A cheerful community day where we take care of our young trees together!

Mulching helps retain soil moisture, inhibits weed growth, and protects the roots of the trees from the approaching cold weather, like a warm blanket.

At this dog- and family-friendly event, everyone will have a task, whether it involves shoveling, raking, or maintaining the group’s good spirits.

When? Saturday, November 15 10:00-14:00

Where? Monorierdő, György Street

NOVEMBER 16 – FARKAS-ERDŐ

In collaboration with BKM Főkert Zrt., we are organizing a community planting in the Farkas-erdő of the IV district.

Anyone can join our team; let’s take a step closer to a greener city!

You don’t need to be an expert, just enthusiastic: we will show you everything, explain it, and plant together.

⏰When? Sunday, November 16, 10:00
📌Where? IV district, Farkas-erdő (meeting point: at the corner of Megyeri Road and Óceán-árok Street)
🚏 Access: Bus 196 from Újpest Központ, stop at Óceán-árok Street

NOVEMBER 22 – MERZSE-MOCSÁR

In the second half of November, we invite you to a joint tree planting at the Merzse-mocsár nature conservation area.

A nature conservation area spanning 48.7 hectares is located in the southeastern part of the capital’s XVII district, on the administrative border of Ecser–Budapest. The protected habitat is surrounded by uninhabited areas, primarily arable land and planted forests.

The partially degraded, yet slowly recovering vegetation hosts a rich animal life. Bird species observation is facilitated by a tower, from which we can look around without disturbing the animals.

The tree planting is currently being carried out under the professional supervision of FŐKERT.

We welcome you too – let’s contribute a little to the increasingly natural vegetation of the Merzse Marsh!
