We planted 32 trees in Ferencváros!
On November 8, undeterred by the morning rain, we planted 32 trees in Budapest, in the IX district.
Of course, a bit of steely determination is needed to start planting in drizzling rain, as everything is more challenging at such times:
the soil, the shovel, and perhaps a little bit the spirit as well.
However, for the trees being planted in their new location, the soaked soil and humid air provide the best start!
WE PLANT AND NOURISH! – but how do we do it?
In the tree planting events in Ferencváros, the adopters not only participate in the planting but also commit to caring for the planted trees for three years in cooperation with the local government:
they regularly water them during summer heatwaves, mulch in the fall, and if
necessary, replace damaged stakes as well.
What is the experience of a volunteer tree planting? Let the participants speak!
WHAT THE TREE PLANTERS SAID…
Ákos, main organizer:
“I was a bit disheartened seeing the morning rain. But it stopped by the time we started! After that, it was all up to us to plant. 🙂 It was great that so many volunteers came to help! 🙂”
Sarolta, adopter:
“I really enjoyed it 🙂 It feels amazing that we planted a tree. And we are infinitely grateful for all the help!”
Alice:
“The digging done by yesterday’s volunteer students made a huge difference! And with all the help today, the planting was super-fast! This is already my 3rd season! And my 7th adopted tree! Thank you everyone for the help! 🤗🤗🤗”
Orsolya:
“Well, the biggest lesson for us is that the most important tool for tree planting in the city center is the pickaxe! 😆 – but it was a great experience. I hope the little trees will thrive and we will have a nice little tree row next to the playground!”
THE NEXT PLANTING
We definitely won’t need a pickaxe at our next planting!
We will return to the Farkas Forest in the IV district and plant native forestry seedlings – hopefully together with you!
